Value-Driven Transformation of Agri-food Systems
(SOFA 2024 Launch)
Uncovering the true cost of food is a prerequisite for transforming agri-food systems. This is why this year’s The State of Food and Agriculture (SOFA) revisits this topic, building on last year’s findings to highlight the need for tailored policies and inclusive consultations to address unique challenges facing countries under six different agri-food systems types.

Financing to End Hunger, Food Insecurity and Malnutrition in All Its Forms
(SOFI 2024 launch at G20 in Brazil; UN Press Conference)
The world remains off track in ending hunger due to a multi-trillion-dollar funding gap. To improve financing, a unified definition of “financing for food security and nutrition” is needed, along with increased investment in agri-food systems, higher risk tolerance and innovation. The State of the World’s Food Security and Nutrition 2024 report offers key baselines for knowledge, financing and action.

Forum for the Future of Agriculture: Annual Conference 2024
(Session 1: Where Do We Go From Here?)
Despite global crises like the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, food supply has stayed steady, albeit pricier, thanks to resilient agri-food systems. So it’s nonsensical that only about 3% of climate financing is allocated to the sector that holds the greatest potential for change. Countries must realize the enormous efficiency gains they can achieve by investing in agri-food systems to ensure good food for all today and tomorrow.

Food Systems and Indigenous Knowledge
(Pontifical Academies of Sciences and Social Sciences, Vatican City)
Indigenous territories, home to 80% of the world’s biodiversity, place their communities at the heart of food security, health, and land stewardship. These connections make them vital agents of change and natural partners for sustainable development. By learning from and working with Indigenous communities, we can build stronger, more resilient agri-food systems.

The Unjust Climate: Bridging the Gap for Women in Agriculture
(Findings from The Unjust Climate report)
Two sectors will change the current climate conditions: energy and agri-food systems. The private sector will tackle energy. And countries must realize that agri-food systems hold the greatest potential for change. Time and again evidence has shown that investing in women in agriculture can unlock that potential and ensure that agri-food systems fulfill the right to food for everyone.
